Blacksmithing is one of the oldest and most essential crafts in human history, often referred to as the “king of trades” because blacksmiths created the tools all other craftsmen used to do their jobs.
In this 3 hour beginner class we will cover the basic skills used by Blacksmiths such as:
- Hot Steel manipulation
- Drawing out
- Upsetting
- Twisting
- Scrolling,
- Hot Cutting, Punching and slitting
We will also teach you how to set up a smithy and good hammering techniques to reduce muscle strain.
All tools, equipment and steel is supplied and at the end of the class you will have created an S hook (or 2) and a Friedrich’s Cross. This is a good way to see if you would like to continue further with Artistic Blacksmithing.
Once the course is finished you might want to continue with open forge days (by negotiation) where you can come and hone your skills and expand your knowledge.
